Theology Notebook: A Jesuit Advent Homily
Not a bad homily at Mass tonight: in fact, probably pretty useful. Its point was to try to take advantage of all the anticipation around--anticipation of finals, end of a semester, going home, Christmas, travel, a new semester coming, and so forth--and to turn that anticipation into part of our meditation on the coming of Christ in Advent. It was kind of a Benedictine approach to spirituality, but instead of weaving work, per se, into prayer, it was pointing at this specific mood of the season. Not a bad move in practical spirituality, I thought: to take what can get interpreted as stressful and transform it into a spiritual activity. "Finding Christ in all things." Score one for the Jesuits.
