Theological Notebook: Hunting Rahner's "Theological Investigations"

What Is A Theologian?
Rahner's Theological Investigations: I've been making a point of trying to pick up the set on the cheap, but that's a lot of picking up to do, with many volumes hard to find below $40. (And tough to keep track of in my head, hence the list.) Still, I managed to find another four with AddAll's Used Book search engine. Just the list is jaw-dropping when I think of what he accomplished in his lifetime. So far I've grabbed the ones I've bolded....

Thirty-one years of work, begun (in a sense) at age 57.

There's still time, chickadee.

Oh, I'm not worried about that. I love it that I'm in a field where I should peak around 65-70. I can't imagine the mental defeat an athlete must feel without any other calling, for instance.

*grin* Overprotective.

Random: I shall not, in a public comment, mention how some of the "peak" scholars in my field are using their time at the top... *cough*NDEnglishprofwritingAristotlemysteries*cough*

Well, there's that, too. I'm certainly not talking about being beholden to anyone else's idea of success, although I still think there's an objective quality to being a good teacher, and perhaps a contractual quality to our doing research, but I wouldn't begrudge Tolkien and Lewis their non-Anglo-Saxon/non-Medieval-Renassiance efforts....

I shall save my babbling in response to that line (which I think is right and thus very very crazymaking) for when I am not about to pass out. For as you know, I am nothing if not beholden to everyone else's idea of success. After a fashion.

Heh. Just adding Volume XIX (which I won on eBay this evening for a mere $6!) while down at Leslie's, and saw that this last response of yours was two years ago today. So if you're ready to complete that thought now....

:-)

I think I've forgotten my train of thought on that one, my dear. But then, I've lost almost all trains of thought today (moving day)

Just added another one for the first time in a few years (trying to find them at around $20-30, with dust jackets) and still grin reading this exchange. Hope the beach continues to treat you well!
