Theology Notebook

I had a fascinating thought while reading Von Balthasar commenting on Jesus being at prayer in the Spirit and asking to be able to receive the Father's will. The Son is the perfect image of the Father: the Word--the total Self-expression--of the Father. That's what the Son is.

So for Jesus--the human, the Incarnated One--to be praying for the Father's will to be done in him, we are seeing nothing more and nothing less than Jesus simply praying to do no more than to be the Son in history, in time and space. He is praying to act out in history as a man what he already is in his divine nature.
