Tired. I was going to update with my (few) thoughts on the Pere Marquette Lecture--the theological event of the year, here--but I think I'm too fried to do that. Up 'til 5 something last night to finish an inadequate progress report on my research for my Von Balthasar seminar, and naturally, we didn't get to it 'cause the discussion was too hopping.

So what else? I'm currently 7 for 13 in winning iTunes downloads from Pepsi products: this being the best "contest" I've ever seen from a drinks maker. It has actually (temporarily) altered my purchasing pattern. My two wins over the weekend allowed me to expand my 80s collection with the hitherto-missing "Burning Down the House" by the Talking Heads and "We Built This City" by Starship.

That last, for some reason, really provokes a memory of sitting out on the porch of 304 N. 3rd St. in Oregon, Illinois, reading on a late summer's night (which would make it September of 1985, just into my junior year in high school) and that tune coming across the turned-down radio next to me, tuned to WZOK out of Rockford. I don't know why--there's precious little content to the memory--but it's strangely evocative for me: just noticing that I like the music, that I feel good, that I'm so young, and that there's something incredibly good about being alive....

Don't you remember?
We built this city
We built this city on rock an' roll...

We built this city
We built this city on rock an' roll
Built this city
We built this city on rock an' roll
