Personal/Theological Notebook: Winding Down; John Courtney Murray, SJ, Haley Speaks

Well, in from a late Mass at Joan of Arc, our little treasure of a medieval chapel. It's been a day of reading We Hold These Truths: Catholic Reflections on the American Proposition by John Courtney Murray, SJ where I've been amazed to see from 1960 an analysis of American church-state tensions that sounds mostly like it was written this week. Still working on the implications of that, in itself.

Making some clam chowder and going to read The OMAC Project for to wind down.

My niece Haley, at 13 months tomorrow, decided that it was time to start speaking. She a quiet one, compared to the drama of Grace at 3 years old (and lots of drama there is), and so I've been wondering what going on in her head as she toddles around looking at everything closely but not making a whole lot of noise about it. So it seemed pretty cool that along with "Mama" and "Dada," she should also decide to open up by saying "Thank you." Kinda cool, I thought.
