You know, it really took a long time for the musical circle I moved in at Notre Dame to come to include a female songwriter (unless I count Emily Lord, I suppose, through Kevin), but it really seemed to me to be worth the wait! Dina Bembic, who entered our lives through Mark, is continuing to create some of the most strong, intense, and--to my mind--powerfully feminine
music I've ever heard. Her Myspace site
allows you to listen and even to download some of the tracks being worked on for her upcoming CD and I think that that alone is worth the hassle of signing up, just so that you can thank her.
I know, music is very much a subjective matter of taste, but I'll give this my highest rating. Her style was so different--but compellingly so--when I first heard it that I couldn't even really figure out what was going on structurally. It wasn't anything like what I was capable of, and that was exciting.Edit:
No sooner do I post this than I find there's something going on with her site and only one song, instead of the four previously, is currently posted and that won't run for me. Um... Keep an eye on it: if there's a server problem, it's worth the wait....
