I See You!
I've never seen so crimson a sunrise over Lake Michigan as this morning's. I thought I would share it with you all: The Lake is as red as blood and it looks like the end and the beginning of the world. I wish I could do it justice.

There must be a lot of dust in the atmosphere to scatter the light so much.

The nuclear thought ran through my head, too, a la the famed hydrogen bomb photo:

Or on my window panes: seriously, the last time the 6th floor had its windows cleaned must have been in the 1950s. Totally gross....

Same with ours. Although since they re-did them, they can now open sideways as well as up and down (they are sash windows) so we can at least clean the lower halfs.

Wow.
28th-Jan-2006 06:31 am (UTC)
Exactly!

Sailors, take warning.

Beautiful.
28th-Jan-2006 06:32 am (UTC)
Ahhh, that's right! But in fact we had a calm and pleasant day.
28th-Jan-2006 11:55 am (UTC)
That's correct - "red sky at night, shepherd's delight; red sky at morning, shepherd's warning."
28th-Jan-2006 04:53 pm (UTC)
Shepherds! Heh. In America, the saying is staffed with "sailors." I wonder which, if either, is the original?
29th-Jan-2006 12:09 pm (UTC)
You hear both here - depends who you ask.
27th-Jan-2006 05:22 pm (UTC)
beautiful, just beautiful!

I know. I don't know if you can see anywhere near the Lake from your part of town, but you were probably more sensible than me and just asleep at the time!
29th-Jan-2006 07:12 am (UTC)
oh dear goodness no... sleep is for those with 2 or less children :D I am one of the "special" ones that gets to see the sunrise from the lakefront, and the sunset thru the glass of the domes from the 3rd floor. Somtimes lifes rewards are just that simple, as im fully certain you know :)

And that's a fabulous one: I'm glad you're aware of it.
27th-Jan-2006 08:56 pm (UTC)
You've made it to my desktop.

28th-Jan-2006 06:39 am (UTC)
Totally cool! What operating system is this?
29th-Jan-2006 06:25 pm (UTC)
Gentoo Linux, using the Enlightenment DR17 desktop.

Funky. I see Mac-like bits and things that remind me more of Windows.
29th-Jan-2006 10:36 pm (UTC)
The thing that looks like the OSX dock is called Engage, and it was pretty much based on the dock. Linux can look a whole lot more like Windows than my setup. Actually, you can make it look just like Mac as well (even to the point of having the application menus on the bar at the top of the screen). Or you can have it look like neither of those. It's fun. And free.
