So... after trying to squeeze out a last burst of relaxation re-reading Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time, as well as reading his new New Spring: the Novel volume, I'm going to have to get to work!: Bill Kurz wants us to read all the Johannine stuff before our first class, so that'll be a pleasant afternoon's work. Reading this stuff in one sitting is definitely its own experience; one that I'd recommend. And reading that opening of John never fails to floor me, especially in the Greek with all of its loaded terminology. The Prologue to John is hands-down the most radical thing ever written by a human being....
In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He was with God in the beginning.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.
