Red Alert
Just grabbed some late-night mac-n-cheese from the freezer when I untangled myself from my dissertation and realized I'd not yet eaten supper. I shut the door to the freezer and then heard what for all the world sounded like someone knocking on the door, from inside the refrigerator. My conscious mind said, "That's strange." My subconscious mind, to my amusement, had me waiting to hear "ZUUL..."

I checked. No one in there.

Good.

AH.

Okay, I couldn't wait for your response so I had to Google it. You will note my shame because I just (a) said "I saw that movie recently!", revealing that I'd never seen it before and, (b) had no memory of what it was, indicating that it had not made a huge impression upon me. Sorry. :/

What's mac-n-cheese?

Now that's one of those unexpected cross-cultural knowledge gaps! I would have thought that this dish was so basic that it would be equally common Over There. "Macaroni and cheese?"

It is very common - I've never heard of it called that though. It's just called "macaroni" - the cheese is taken for granted! Occasionally, it might be called "macaroni cheese".

Ahhh... gotcha. And with a moment's effort, we bring our countries that much closer in understanding and goodwill!

Yeah, I thought initially you were re-heating a MacDonald's cheeseburger you'd stored in the fridge for later! Which sounded less than appetising.
